Transport: UN38.3 (non-negotiable)
The UN38.3 test series includes T.1 Altitude Simulation, T.2 Thermal Test, T.3 Vibration, T.4 Shock, T.5 External Short Circuit, T.6 Impact / Crush, T.7 Overcharge and T.8 Forced Discharge. The applicability of individual tests depends on whether the item is a cell or battery and the relevant test conditions.

How to verify a supplier's certificates
- Ask for the actual test report or certificate documentation, not just a certification logo.
- Check whether the documentation covers your exact cell or battery model, not a similar one.
- Check report or certificate numbers where applicable, including scope and validity/status when shown.
- Confirm the issuing or testing organization where relevant.
- For stationary energy storage, confirm which system-level standards or tests apply to the specific product and target market.

UN38.3 is part of the lithium battery transport testing framework. Lithium cells and batteries offered for transport generally must meet the applicable UN38.3 requirements, subject to the relevant transport regulations and any applicable exceptions.
What's the difference between UN38.3 and IEC 62133-2?+
UN38.3 addresses transport testing requirements for lithium cells and batteries. IEC 62133-2 is a product-safety standard mainly for portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries. They are separate compliance workstreams.
Do home energy-storage batteries need special certification?+
Requirements depend on the target market, system configuration, installation and applicable local regulations or standards. Stationary energy-storage projects may involve IEC 62619:2022, UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A or other requirements at different cell, battery or system levels.
How do I confirm a battery is really certified?+
